I thought that the movie was excellent.

I read it but did not see movie. I never watch "R" rated movies.
The book was not unpatriotic, war is hard on everyone but hardest on the innocents that are drafted or volunteer during war times. Unprepared means pain.

who here thinks that Censorship and denying people the right to criticize their government despite that right's being enshrined in the Constitution is Unamerican?

It is unpatriotic to silence others and to call them traitors because you do not agree.

I read the book and the book after that...his intent was to explore what war does to people....cannibalism by Japanese, fire bombing of civilians by Americans....the whole thing was gruesome....
