call them when speaking of the many beliefs in the world, about why and how? Should we make a new word? You don't Know any more than a Hari Krishna does. You just "believe" you do. Would you prefer belief system. I hear alot of "don't call us religion", than what? A "philosophy" does not quite fit for the zealous way some Atheist go about it. If you are a philosophy they all are. Science has not figured out half of it, heck the Buddhist know more than they do about the universe, yet they prance around with the same we are not a belief system stuff, yah well tell that to a Trekkie...
there are some Athiest in here really making it look like dogma how bout dogma...I know you guys and yer christain bros are touchy, but I want to call you what you want...howa bout ...non deist-believing peoples- or grave-going-staying-there, or talking walking DNA etc
Humor me.

A word for all guesses at our conscienceness after death...you have no proof, they have no proof....I am looking for a new or old WORD not pointless prancing and explaining, you guys answer questions like Christians. I know what a gorram Athiest is. Who in R and S could miss you and the fundies.
As any one could guess I am agnostic.(tempted but no condesending explination on what that is) I may be "cocky" but I don't claim my knowledge is the only knowledge...that I am right you are wrong. And no I won't stop ranting....I least I know I am an idiot, and its not a religion; I prefer "Idiotism" its based in reality, so sorry you were annoyed, that my writing is longer than a commercial, I think its good for you, go lick the wound...
Maybe you guys can only dish it out but can't take it?

You are just making a religious argument over atheists. An atheist could easily make a similar argument towards other religions. I for one am, I guess you would say, agnostic. While I do not necessarily DENY the existence of some deity, I do not believe in one. Meaning that I am not a "religious" person and I am fine with everyone elses beliefs as long as it does not affect my life or anyone elses for ridiculous reasons. (i.e. a family somewhere lets their dying child die because they believe in prayer rather than medicine when they could have easily been saved.)
I would think a lot of people associate the term "religion" with some sort of belief in a god or all-powerful being(s), which Atheism is obviously not about.
As far as saying ANYONE knows anymore about anything else than someone else with no proof to back it up, that's just stupid. The world we live in is one built upon foundations of science. "Believing" something is one way is not the same as proving it is another way. As much as you (or anyone else) would like to think that they have "proof", I just don't know what else to say. Science is what matters when you talk about what REALLY is.
Be in your own mindset about religion, whatever, if it makes you happy then knock yourself out. If it doesn't bother me and it makes you happy, I'm a happy guy. If it starts becoming an issue for ME, *then* I have a problem.

You modern-day this question to Atheists, so, by potential of the very definition, no faith would be vindicated, as a results of fact from an Athiest viewpoint, there is not any such element as Judgement Day or God, thereby voiding out all religions from any place!!! (further information: i'm no longer an Athiest!)

Calling atheism a "religion" is akin to claiming health a disease, that vegetarians eat a certain type of meat, or that inactivity is a sport.
At best it displays ignorance by the speaker and at worst deliberate dishonesty.
You insult the words of well known atheists by calling it "dogma"? Dogma is defined as "a religious doctrine that is proclaimed as true without proof". Since when is saying "There is no demonstrable evidence for a 'god'" not true? Since when is dealing in facts not a matter of fact?
To say otherwise is ingenuous and even malicious, but given religions' violent history, that's not surprising.

Hmm.. Well, Buddhists are atheists. Raelians are atheists. Many Jews are atheists. These are all adherents to a religion.
Since the only thing that Atheists have in common is a lack of belief in a deity, there are lots of religions that include atheism. Are you trying to say that we have to pick one of them, or can we just be atheists, with no religion?
Why do you insist on calling it a religion, when there is no organization, structure, hierarchy, educational system, or dogma?

It doesn't meet the definition of a religion at all. It is the lack of religion. If I was asked what religion I was, I would probably say "Atheist" but only to indicate that I didn't have one.
Religions imply faith. I certainly do not have faith in anything. I hold no position sacred, but always go with the evidence.

Because it is not a religion. It is a statement of non-belief.
It's also not a religion just because a lot of us in the western world happen to have the same philosophical way of thinking.... i.e. on death, debating with theists, etc..
hee I think the internet has given us a lot of ammo and brought many of us together that way.
aaalll hail the internet!!! ;-)

They are entitled to their beliefs or non-beliefs as is applicable. Atheism is not a religion as such, but they do have their own belief system -- it just does not concern itself with God. This is not to say atheists are immoral and societal unaware -- this would be untrue. Each atheist is responsible to society and should be respected as such.
