How is this Rx used in the preventive medication for migraines. the name of it is Pamelor ( generic: nortriptyline). This med is for depression, so I don't understand why it is working for my migraines but since I've been on it I went from 3-5 a week to about 1 a week!!!! So it IS working!!!! I've been on it since 11/16/06. Why are antidepressants prescribed for migraines anyways??

To start with Im not an MD, Im a nurse.

The exact workings of the Tricyclic antidepressants (amitriptyline, dothiepin, nortriptyline) is not really understood, but it is known to have a connection with the levels of serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain.
