Hello again. My company and much of Virginia is still using a class A foam based retardant. But I believe you are referring to Basic H - cotton picker spindle cleaner. I am not even sure if it is available in our area on a wide scale but from what I have head about the product it is supposed to work well.

In ancient times, it was Carbon Tetrachloride, which was also the solvent of choice for dry cleaning. Stuff turned out to be wonderfully toxic, even more so when converted to something else by high temperature. So much for both dry cleaning and fire fighting. Carbon Tet has been gone for a long time now, so I don't know if it has been replaced.

The chemical I believe you are referring to is fire-fighting foam. It is composed of the organic solvents trimethyltrimethylene glycol and hexylene glycol. You may want to check out this site for more information. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire_retardant_foam

i desire that there are none. I elect a hearth branch that makes use of genuine chemical elements to positioned out fires. If my living house is burning, i do not elect a sequence of hippies attempting to positioned the hearth out. i elect chemical elements the way God meant.
