All kids are on there own schedule with stuff like that. As long as you are showing her how and giving her opportunities to try then she'll get the hang of it! :o)

Eliminate the bottle; you will see how fast they learn. It is not cruel but a means to adapt. Give the child her sippy-cup and be sure that she is sitting upright. Leave her with the cup and she will eventually take to it on her own. Don't give in to her crying, it never hurt anyone to cry, and be firm with eliminating the bottle. It only lasts for a day or two. You are the parent so be strong in your beliefs and your ways as you are teaching your child the habits you want them to have.

Have you tried the sippy at meals, just put some water in it. She'll get thirsty and you can just hand it to her-they are really smart! My son still likes to sit on my lap while he drinks out of a sippy-but he holds it. They still associate fluids with bonding!

How long have you been letting her use the sippy cup? I started when my girl was around 7mths for water, then a few mths later for the occasional glass of milk. By the time she was 1yr she could hoist it up herself and tilt her head back, but only because we had started so young. It takes awhile for them to learn how to hold it by themselves, so I think you just need to give her more time to master it by herself.

You have to force her to ajust to the sippy cup, and you cant let her see the bottle or she will want that. And you also have to force her to hold it herself dont make the cup to heavy and you hold it for a second and then ajust her hands where she can hold, and if she refuse just keep doing it that way until she takes it. You can also put a blanket and prop it up that wil make her use to you not holding it when she lay down.

A one year old is smarter than you give her credit for. She isn't holding it only because she knows you will!!! Show her how to hold the cup a few times by putting her hands on it the right way. Then let it go, she will figure out she is not going to get anything to drink unless she does it herself. I guarantee you she already knows how, she just wants you to do it for her. The easy way to get her to hold it is to stop doing it for her.

Try using a Nuby cup, it has a soft little spout that kindof looks like a straw, but kindof looks like a nipple. It's an in-betweener. And at 1 she should be perfectly capable of holding it up, but she knows you'll do it for her, so she doesn't bother. If this continues, ask your Dr.
