In my opinion, people lose their interest in the real world when they become obssessed about the afterlife.

It's like picking and prodding the peas on your plate during dinnertime, muttering "Ew, I so don't like this."

Then, when your mother dishes out something sugary like cake, you wolf it down without hesitation.

But what you don't realise is that in reality, the peas are far more nutritional and wholesome. The cake and ice cream are only filled with artificial ingredients and topped with bright colors.

---------------------------------------------------

This is just a weird theory I made about life. People become so obssesed with the afterlife (dessert) that they forget about the "here and now" part of their lives (the main course). This was a major Enlightenment idea promoted during the Renaissance.

What do you guys think :/?

When I say afterlife, I mean heaven.

I'm always too full for dessert. Same for the afterlife - I want to live this life so vibrantly that nothing to come can compare.

That's a very interesting analogy. I can see where you're coming from and personally I do tend to agree with you. I'm not really spiritual and don't totally subscribe to any religious beliefs (or none that i've heard of as yet - I'm kind of eclectic in my views of spirituality and religion and take a bit of a 'cut and paste' stance on life and 'spirituality').

However, I guess that if you do subscribe to some religion then you would view the after-life as the main course and the 'real world' as the starter, rather than 'dinner and dessert' as you put it (since most organised religions preach that the spiritual life - after death - is, in fact, the 'real' life). I have to say that sometimes I do envy people with firm spiritual/religious beliefs, as most of the time I don't really know what I believe/think!!!!

I can say to you that there is an after life but it is not the dessert. Adam and Eve ate the dessert in the Garden Of Eden when they ate the forbidden fruit. We enjoy a main meal and dessert as well when we have a big meal here on Earth. How often do we thank GOD. In heaven the life never ends. This is difficult for most of us to understand. Death is all around us. A large part of our body is made up of water. There is no life without water. People are always trying to out think God. As for me i know very little. God knows everything.

Our pastor just talked about that in today's sermon, but his take was that the joys of this life are like appetizers. Appetizers are to get the hunger going for the main course. The magnificence of the main course will be for us in heaven. It will be pleasure and joy that will not end.

You know, I think you're on to something. To me, the whole 'eternal bliss' thing every day for the rest of existence sounds boring.

Yes, you should compare life to dessert. Both are highly fattening.
