No. You could hold your breath til you lost consciousness, but at that point you could no longer control your breathing and you would start to breathe again.

When i was taking an Emergency Medical Technician course,My son was going through a bratty stage. He would hold his breath to get what he wants, and when his face would start to turn red i would cave in.
I talked to my instructor who was a doctor,he told me that all that would happen is he may pass out,but he will automatically start breathing, because breathing is an automatic response.
So the next time my son threatened to hold his breath,i told him to go ahead. He didnt know what to say.He stomped out of the room and he never did that again.
So to answer your question-No you wont die from just holding your breath.Hope this helps!

You cannot die by simply holding your breath. Once you become unconcious, you start to breathe again even though you have passed out. The only way to die is if you tape up your nose and mouth then you can't breathe once you black out.
But don't do it!

Actually, as one of the bodies protective mechanisims, if you hold your breath for a particular duration of time, different for everyone, you would simply pass out. Now if you fixed it so that if you passed out you still couldn't breath, like placing a plastic bag over your head securely, then yes, you could die.

It's not possible. Your brain would run out of oxygen first and you'd go unconscious. Plus there's this thing called the "medulla oblongata" that tells your brain you have too much CO2 and not enough O2 in your blood, and will force you to breath (or force you to faint, either way the objective is served).

Um... not 100% sure, but I think if you aren't drowning or being suphacated-sp? you force your body to breathe. I think it's like 5 minutes or so I really am not 100% sure.

NO, you'd pass out and start breathing again (almost like a reflex), as if you were asleep.
