I am one of the healthiest people I know. I don't eat red meat, I have a moderate carb intake and I eat lots of fruits and vegetables. My meals mostly consist of fruits and vegetables. I eat sweets maybe once a month, sometimes not at all and not in large quantities. I run 2 miles every day and then walk my dog 1 mile. I also teach ballet. Can anyone tell me why it is that I still am 20 pounds overweight and still have love handles?

I have had this nutritional routine for about 2 years now but I haven't lost any weight. I have exercised more and I do weight lifting twice a week but I still have a horrible lower body (love handles, pooch and bad thighs.) Does anyone know why I can't lose what seems to be almost like baby fat, except for my age?

Please help!

What kind of weight lifting do you do?
First I would recommend raising the reps and lowering the weight.

I would recommend cutting sodium out of your diet, and INCREASE the amount of water you drink. With all that excercise, it is hard to get enough water, and your body actually retains water when you aren't drinking enough.

I would also recommend raising your calories for a week by 500, then going back down to what you were eating. I would possibly eat more veggies than fruit.

I would also suggest strongly that you cut out the two-mile run TWO days out of the week. (I want to tell you 3, but see how this works, then go to 3days off if you want)....Here is the logic:
You need to rest a couple days per week. If you are putting stress on your ligaments/muscles, you could be retaining water around them unnecessarily.

I hope this works for you. I believe it will do the trick. You might also want to get checked to make sure you are getting enough IRON in your diet.

You might just be at your optimal weight, if you do all of that activity and stay the same weight. You could try cutting calories (fruit has a lot of sugar) and pay attention to how your food is prepared. If you normally use oil or butter in your frying pan, switch to water. If you put butter on bread, stop. Don't drink a lot of juice or soda (the sugar has a lot of calories). If you are a coffee drinker, make sure you use milk instead of cream, and consider artificial sweetener instead of sugar. Lattes and the various flavour shots that go with them have hidden calories.

Double your running and walking (4 mile run, 2 mile walk with dog) but make sure you do the run only every second day. Teaching ballet may or may not be a lot of exercise, depending on exactly what you are doing. Standing at the front while others sweat feels like a workout, but it's not ;)

Try some exercises targeting your abdominal area if that's what you are concerned about (walking and running don't specifically impact this area). And remember, the number on the scale can be misleading - if you have a lot of muscle you will weigh more than someone of the same size who just has fat.

Current recommendations say you should do 30 minutes of cardio on most days of the week (at the right heart rate for your age) as well as eating a well-balanced diet. THIS DOES NOT MEAN CUTTING CARBS. Your body requires carbohydrates for energy as well as for normal brain functioning. If you want to lose weight, it is suggested that you cut 500 calories from your diet each day to safely lose 1-2 pounds per week. Keep your fat intake low and try to replace it with more nutrient dense foods like fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and low-fat carbs. Keep in mind that exercise and proper diet must be used in combination to maximize your results.

Keep trying different exercises so your workouts stay fresh. This will also force your body to keep recruiting different muscles. Best of luck. . . .

See site below with tips on losing weight and see if you can figure out what is wrong. Could be lots of things. Good carbs like celery and carrots will never make you fat. Bad carbs like cake will, but you don't need to know the whole science of glycemic load. You need to re-learn how to eat so you can become thin and healthy. Find out about fastest way to lose weight, most effective exercise, good and bad carbs, water retention and secret trick used by models to flatten their tummy before an event.

Reading a book will take you hours but the information on a post, taking minutes to read, is not enough. The webpage below has just enough to know what you need to know. Links page has gov. BMI calculater to find out just how much overweight you are (teens plug in your age to compare to others your age). Learn how to nourish your body thin, instead of starving your body fat.

Could be water retention which is not affected by exercise or calories.
