Well there are many causes of acne: clogging of pores, oily skin, unbalanced hormones, blood sugar levels and most of these causes are a result of what's going on inside of you. If you have unbalanced hormones it could be because your body is producing too many hormones that your body knows to do with. Because many hormones are produced during the teen years this can cause acne.
Acne is also caused by bad health. If you have bad digestive health, bad breath, constant gas, bloating etc then it's probably your intestinal health that's causing it.
As for blood sugar levels, try eating a whole bunch of sugar and simple carbs and see how your acne reacts. Eating that kind of stuff spikes the blood levels and causes outbreaks.
A good idea is to have a colon cleanse since it'll clear your body. Another idea is to have a liver cleanse since it'll cleanse your liver which is responsible for regulating hormones. It also helps the metabolism. But the best idea is to have a healthy diet without mucus forming foods like dairy and sugars and more natural stuff. Having a clean body inside will definately show on the outside.

Basically excess sebum production, clog pores and bacteria. Its the inflamation of pores which lead to acne.
For the face, you have to use a cleanser made for acne skin. The cleanser might contain triclosan, tea tree oil and other anti bacteria properties to help reduce the number of bacteria. Next you have an ointment or cream that contains either salicylic acid, benzoil peroxide, tea tree oil or other anti bacteria or inflamatory ingredients to reduce acne. Forget what you read about benzoil peroxide being bad. It is one of the chemicals that has been proven to directly kill the bacteria that causes acne. There are many medical journals that support this fact. A recent summary of a journal I read, state that a 10% benzoil peroxide does not work better than a 2% benzoil peroxide. However if your skin is allergic to it then stop using it. If you feel that benzoil peroxide is drying, use a moisturizer after you apply it. Beware benzoil peroxinde will bleach hair and fabric. I learned that the hard way, when my favourite shirt was bleached due to the fact my benzoil peroxide drips on it.
For your body, you can use soap that contains the anti bacteria ingredients above and use a loofah or shower sponge to gently exfoliate. Don't go over board with the rubbing.
There are also medications you can take to control acne at your dermatologist.
finally water and fresh fruits/vegetable are always on list to prevent any type of problems.
p.s there is myth that saying peanuts causes acne, to some people it is a fact because they are slightly allergic to it.

NATURAL ACNE PROTOCOL
1/ Never, ever touch your face.
2/ Use 3 facecloths to wash your face, one to soap on, one to soap off with very hot water, one to rinse off with ice cold water, in that order, once a day.
3/ If you are under 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A once a day with a full meal
4/ If you are over 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A twice a day with a full meal.
Do not get pregnant while taking vitamin A. Do not take any more, like Accutane, it will stop you growing.
5/ Never, ever. pick, squeeze or pop your spot. Read number 1 again.
6/ Do this for 90 days.
7/ Invest in a brand new pillow and 2 new or more pillow cases to double bag' your pillow. HOT wash every couple of days.

A bit of advice given to me as a teenager, a bit of science as I am studying allergic reactions and vitamin A is a part of that. A bit of research: I sat in a lecture at the back and watched the acne prone pick at their faces, those with the worse acne touched their faces 32 times in an hour, the clearest complexions didn't touch their faces even once. I have circumstantial evidence that acne is the result of dermatophyte transfer from hands to face...where it does not get washed off and is well fed by hormones, sweat a
nd oil...just a hypothesis... But it would explain why vitamin A is so effective as vitamin causes skin to remove dermatophytes.
The secret is never to touch the spots
Tips on how to treat acne and achieve perfect clear skin in as little as 7 days?

Acne can be caused by many things - it could be oil, dry skin, sweat, or even stress. Wash your face in the morning and night and use a face wash on your back while you shower. Also try a facial moisturizer (I like neutrogena shine control), in case that's the reason.
