I'm really shy around people I don't really know. There's this guy I've been crushing on, and I know he likes me as well. At first I wasn't really interested because I thought he just wanted a hook-up, but now I realize it's more than that.
I gave him my phone number, and now I'm worried that when he calls I won't be able to talk to him. My friend (who also knows him) said that my crush won't want really long conversations, but I'm really not good at talking to people I don't know well.
Can anyone tell me some strategies that'll help me?

Run down the list, there is something wrong with him if you cant start a conversation after trying some of these.

Just tell him how you feel, and make sarcastic laugh. Try to act like hes just like a friend. Try to think he is not your crush. Ask simple question and work up the latter.

See if you can get him talking and just keep asking questions. He probably already knows you're shy, so just say what you feel comfortable with. Guys like it when you listen a lot anyway! Good luck. :)

tell him how u feel...and start by talkin about stuff he does or likes and then tell him and try not 2 b quiet this is comin from a shy guy so this works w. me 2 girls

Find common interests - talk about them.
Ask questions, don't monopolize the conversation.

you said you are shy in meeting or talking , try to write mails or sms to his mobile. this might help and you will gain confidence after a while

he likes you
if that is the case
then you do not need to worry about impressing him
tell him you like him and are nervous
and it will calm you down
and tell him why you are not yourself when you do get nervous
