I want to learn to sleep 6 or less hours per night in order to increase my productivity at work. I have heard of people being able to sleep 4 hours per night without excessive fatigue.

Make sure your bed is in a position so that the sun would be distractingly noticeable in the morning to wake you up (or, open your blinds). Instead of having one alarm, have more: perhaps your cell phone, radio and television going off before the time you intend to sleep. But in order to be fully satisfied with your sleep, it's essential for your body to receive sufficient oxygen; try not to have your head covered under your sheets/blanket, therefore, make the temperature of your room warm enough. Also, something that would help you be less sleepy in the afternoon is a second shower of the day and more coffee or tea. And before going to bed, drink enough water so that you might have to go to the bathroom more often during sleep-time, therefore making you more alert and the wake-up easier. Don't forget to have strictly healthy food throughout the day so that your body earns the proper nutrition in order for you not to feel over-fatigued. Good luck, but make sure you you rest well throughout the weekends at least. If it doesn't work out within the first wook, and you try hard, don't over-do it.

I don't think you can. If you investigated these unusual people....
Thomas A. Edison comes to mind....you would find that they took frequent naps during the day....something you won't want to do at work. Human adults need a minimum of 7 hours of normal sleep cycle for brain health. You may be able to play with those hours for a while, but in the long run sleep deprivation catches up and your overall functionability will suffer. Best you don't try to one-up Mother Nature and look for other ways to increase your productivity.

Why would you want to sleep less? I would give a lot to be able to sleep 4 to 6 hours a night.

Your body NEEDS the sleep. Men sleep fewer hours on average than women, but it is very important to your ability to heal your body, and also for your brain to process daily life.

Anyone can lose a little sleep for a short time, but it isn't healthy. Sleep deprivation is a method of torture....and it works.

If you are in a situation where you are too busy to sleep, best to change the situation and live longer.

Why would you want to do that? The most healthy time of sleeping is 8 hours..You would become very unhealthy dropping down to 4 hours, what, are you trying to do commit suicide.???

Sorry but i think that's bull. If you want to increase your productivity, sleep more; you'll work harder when you are awake that if you're up 20 hrs a day, half-asleep. Go back to bed!

Your body will sleep as long as it needs to according to your weight, activity, and calorie intake.

The only solution I guess, is to set your alarm!
