I would get a Golden Retriever, they are beautiful, fun loving dogs. Any dog even a loud dog could be trained not to bark. I am assuming you do not want it to bark for dumb reasons..IE" Doorbell" They on average weigh about 50-60 LBS.

One of the first things you need to concider is how much will the dog be alone. Some dogs can not stand to be left alone often. If you will be home with it most of the time I would choose a toy or miniture poodle. They are smart, loyal, easy to train and wonderful companions.

I have a chihauhua - and i love him! he is pretty easy going and good natured dog. everyone was like oh you got a little ankle biter and hes not that at all. he honestly doesnt bark unless we are playing with him and have him wound up. the only thing that i have found discouraging about him is that he is very stubborn when it comes to training him to use a puppy pad and not do his business in the floor. besides that i would recommend getting a chihauhua...they are great pets!

Get to know your local SPCA, and tell them what you want. They send some sick or neglected dogs to volunteer homes to get them healthy before putting them up for adoption. The volunteers get to know the dogs pretty good and give advice on who should adopt the dog. When a good one comes along they will call you and you will give a good home to a good dog.

i love my mutts! I think they are the greatest. You can go to your local shelter and have a look around. I've always hear the terriers are bad barkers and the ones I had in the past had been, but the current terrier mix I have now rarely barks.

go to the AKC website
they have a quiz that you answer things like your lifestyle, size of dog you are thinking about, your living arrangement (apartment, house, yard, ect), how much time you have to give to your pet, and so on....it will show you what breeds of dogs would seem to fit you best.
