Usually the waiting time is just long enough for your insurance to ok the braces.
The worst part (in my opinion) of getting them on is getting molds of your teeth, an all you have to remember is to breathe through your nose and don't freak out.
They put this putty stuff in something that looks like dentures with no teeth, then they put it in your mouth and push on it, wait 30 seconds or so, and take it out.
For me, they put rubber bands over my back few teeth, and made me come back in a month (those were to increase the space between my teeth, cause they were crowded.).
Then, when I actually got them on, they pushed these metal circles around my molars (big, fat teeth in the back) and glued the metal parts that hold the wire (brackets) to my front teeth.
The glue does taste a bit nasty, so they'll let you brush your teeth every now and then.
It's cool, cause to dry the glue, they use this super-powerfull blue light.
They may, or may not give you colors then, they might not even put a wire on. (they gave me a few weeks to adjust to having just the brackets on. It's much better when they put wires in, cause your lip sits on smooth wire instead of brackets.)

They'll give you "orthodintic wax", which is what you need to put over anything that pokes your lips. (wires, brackets, hooks.) That'll keep it from hurting your lips.

You'll most likely be given a prescription for fluoride too, DON'T FORGET TO USE IT!
When you get further along into having braces, your teeth may be really sensitive, that's because the braces are having o move your teeth, and it's kinda like having a whole bunch of loose teeth (even though they don't feel that way) and fluoride helps to heal them!

I still use it, even though I got my braces off last month.

Every month or two, you'll go in and probably have them tightened, and they'll change your colors too.
Tightening's not THAT bad, and yeah, it's uncomfortable, I'd go so far to say it hurls a little, but as long as you take some Ibuprofin (Advil), you'll be just fine!
the pain is a little more than that of a small bruise, but much less than that of the least painfull shot.

Don't worry!

Hope this helps!!!

It's good that you want them. Braces do wonderful things for your teeth. They fixed up my smile very well. I would suspect that you have a month. You get spacers for about a week (rubber bands in between your teeth to make room for the brackets) and then on go the braces. Don't be scared. There may be slight pain for the first two days (keep tylenol on hand), but it will be minor, and is only because your teeth have to get used to the movement. It may hurt a bit (but less) when you get your wires changed, but it's nothing to be worried about.

I am 12 and i got braces a little over a month ago. it only hurts or is sore for about two days after you get them on and will be hard to eat for no more than a week. It might take a couple of months but for me i had to reschedule twice so it will probably take about a month or so. I hope this helps!

getting your braces on does hurt a bit when you first get them, and any time they tighten them or what nots.

my advice is to take a couple of pain killers right before you go so that it doesn't hurt that bad, and eat some ice cream after words or get a milk shake and take more pain killers

also, the appointment to get the braces in takes about an hour to an hour and a half

good luck :)

Your dentist will let you know the process once he/she evaluates your teeth. The actual braces themselves don't hurt at all but your mouth will be a little achy for about a day after each visit when your wires are changed. You can take some advil or tylenol that day and use a little orajel. Do not hesitate to let the dentist know if it hurts much more than a dull ache.

When I got my braces the first night was horrible, I hadn't really felt pain like that before but it lessened and eventually by the next day was over with. Most orthodonists willg ive you pain medication if you really really need it.

Also after you get them, brush your teeth like you've never brushed them before. Three times a day, every day or you'll get horrible decay spots on your teeth that will never go away! Brush Brush Brush!

wen i first got braces, it was sore for a week..it sucked cuz that week was my b-day n i cudnt eat cake=(. but anyway, after the first week, you can start eating again, but wen u eat oranges, dont have them sliced, otherwise the pressure takes off the rubber bands.

It only hurts for a little whenever they tighten them. Be sure to use your wax so your lips and cheeks don't get raw from rubbing against them. They aren't so bad. You'll get used to them and when they finally come off, you'llbe glad you had them.
