My Bible tells me that it is to be understood that this is not a book of predictions, but it is, instead, symbolic. That this book applied to a people and a time far different than our own. I believe that. It is logical. Why is there, especially now, such a facination with the rapture, with the tribulation, and with Revelation - when, in fact, many of the modern views of such have been invented at least 100 years ago ( I realize that it is not specifically 100 years, a little more than that, but bear with me). It is especially prevelant in fundamentalist churches. The Catholic Church and my Presbyterian faith do not focus on this depressing aspect of the Bible. Why does yours?

People like trying to understand the future. It makes them feel more in control. They would be fascinated with anything that details the future, no matter how horrific. Of course, the Book of Revelations was more of John's attempt at a political joke against Nero and the Romans. Shame no one got it...

What's so depressing? For true believers it's the final chapter when all the wrongs of this world are made right. I'll admit some parts are pretty rough. Depends on where you stand with God. The ending is freakin' beautiful. Again, depends on where you stand with God.

Why the fascination? I think a lot of people are getting this little itch that says "maybe we ARE getting close to the end." Better take another look at that checklist to see if I missed something before it's too late.

Read about the seven churches. They were real churches back then but are symbolic of today's churches as well. Decide which one you're in and which one your personal beliefs best adhere to. You may be shocked.

Forget the old views and the modern views. Read the book yourself. If you don't understand what the book is telling you, maybe it's time to have a heart to heart with God. You really don't want to mess this one up.

I think deep down people are searching for answers, they see that societies the world over are disintegrating and they want answers. Revelations reveals the coming of the end times and what to expect. Even though there are many non- believers, the number of which could hardly be counted, the facts still remain that numerous books have been written about Daniel and Revelations in particular because they deal with prophecy. And the Bible continues to be the number one best selling book of all time, year after year after year. I would venture to guess that the readers of these books are not confined to those who already believe.

A REVELATION TO JOHN—this thrilling book of the Bible brings the divine record to a happy climax. Why do we say “happy”? Well, the Author of the Bible is described as “the happy God,” who entrusts “glorious good news” to those who love him. He wants us to be happy too. Thus, at the outset Revelation assures us: “Happy is he who reads . . . the words of this prophecy.” In its final chapter we are told: “Happy is anyone observing the words of the prophecy of this scroll.”—1 Timothy 1:11; Revelation 1:3; 22:7.

2 How do we find happiness through the book of Revelation? We do so by searching out the meaning of its vivid signs, or symbols, and acting in harmony therewith. Mankind’s turbulent history will soon reach a catastrophic climax, as God and Jesus Christ execute judgment on today’s wicked system, replacing it with “a new heaven and a new earth,” where even “death will be no more.” (Revelation 21:1, 4) Do not all of us want to live in such a new world, in true peace and security? We can if we build up our faith through study of God’s Word, including the stirring prophecy of Revelation

I don't think it is a fascination with the book of Revelations. Revelations is a book of Prophecy mostly yet to come. The book is about how the end of days, the world as we know it now, will end when Christ returns. The thing is that so many things in the world today, more-so than any other time, are on the verge of becoming fulfilled prophecy. This generation could be, in my opinion most likely be, the generation to see the return of Jesus. Yes, the time that this was written differs very much than today. Things revealed were not seen in those days, so the author described it as best as he could for the generation in which he lived. Insightful followers of Jesus who are gifted with their eyes and hears to be able to see and hear are able to interpret the scripture accurately for today's generation.

It shouldn't be depressing to you if you are saved and have accepted Jesus as your redeemer and king. His coming will be a blessed event and he will make all things new and do away with evil.

The focus is that those who preach the Gospel of the Lord Jesus want what Christ wants, for everyone to be redeemed live eternal life with God, not the only other choice, which is eternal damnation - forever being separated from God and not being in the presence of love and joy. Eternal torment and pain - gnashing of teeth and with Satan.

Well, if your church doesn't focus on the entire bible or accept the book of Revelation, then it doesn't accept the entire bible. You either believe the whole bible or you don't believe it at all.

The book of Revelation is symbolic, but it is referring to the signs of the end times and the end of the world. There are things happening now that show the end is near: "earthquakes, famines, wars and rumors of wars", etc. When Christ does return to judge the earth gather His people to Himself, it'll be the most happiest day of my life - freedom from the bondage of living in this wretched world and I'll be free from my sinful nature - made perfect like unto Him in glory - :D

Every generation, since the bible was written, there have been people who worry about the end of the world. God needs people to interpret Revelation correctly; i.e, "when 3 miracles occur, 3 witnesses are killed and are left lying in the street for 3 days, and the other predictions come true then God's people will know to be ready", to profess their faith, even if it means death.

The books Daniel and revelations are very closely tied together. This has nothing to do with the rapture these books are books of prophecy. They are not depressing but enlightening. They teach us and inform us of how the end will come and who will be found righteous and those who will perish,..the entire bible is given to save our souls not for man to fight the word of God, but to obey the word of God.
