Ive owned and house trained two male IGs. We used a large rubbermaid bin and cut out an opening for them to enter (tall sides as our boys liked to lift their legs, females could use a cat litter box). We used puppy pee pads to line the box and trained them to use this in the house. The first thing they peed on as a puppy (my old bathroom rug) I placed this inside the rubbermaid bin for the sent. Every 15 minutes we placed the puppy in the box and gave a command to go potty (like, "go potty"). If the puppy went in the box, lots of immediate praise and treats. It took quite sometime to train them, but it can be done. Accidents do, and most likely will happen. Dont ever hit your dog or rub his/her face in it. Just make a noise (like a hand clap) to stop the action with a stern "NO!" to show you're not approving of the action. Then immediately place the dog in the proper place to potty (if thats outside or in a litter box). Remember small dogs have small bladders and will need to be taken outside or have access to a potty area frequently. Ive also been told that altered dogs will train faster and neutered males tend to be less likely to "mark".

Many Italian Greyhound owners report that an IG is never truly housetrained... try litter training... IGs tend to have accidents throuout their entire lives... inability to housetrain is the number one reason IGs are turned over to rescues and shelters...

Just have patience, after about 18 months things go really well, but accidents can/will/do happen with the breed though.
