My father was an “absent father", he was always working to support my mother & myself. When he was present he was controlling & would mentally, and verbally abuse my mother & I. He would call my mother stupid or yell whenever he spoke. Years ago was prescribed Cerepax medication for sleep /depression, but flushed it down the toilet saying that it made him crazy. He always disciplined me but that is all .Today he listens to what others say but doesn’t have many friends, still works a lot at 62, still prejudice, if people look old or not, still looses his temper if he doesn’t like what someone says & always thinks he is right. He doesn't believe in saying sorry & is proud of it .He's very negative but likes to lecture myself & others about being positive. Is he suffering from depression? I'm a 27 yr old teacher still at home. I’m not ungrateful for his generosity & want us to get along; he is a lot better than he used to be and we talk about general things.

If he were suffering from depression, he would more than likely would not have been able to work all these years. He could have Narcissistic Personality Disorder. It sounds more like that than depression.
