My dog pulled a muscle chasing a tennis ball a day and a half ago. She is still hurting, which is evident by the way she lifts her paw and has difficulty sitting. Is it safe to give her half an Aleve? My friend said she would heal on her own, but should I take her to a vet tommorow if she is still limping? Help, I can't stand seeing her in pain.

Ok, she may have pulled a muscle, but if she did like my Cocker once did (tried going from 0-60 in 1.2 secs), she may actually have torn the cruciate ligament. It's better to have a vet check it just in case.

Never give human meds to an animal unless the vet approves it. They metabolize substances differently than we do, and what's ok for us (ex: chocolate) can be deadly for them.

Until you get the dog to the vet, an ice pack over the area can be helpful in at least getting the swelling down.

a baby asprin would be better to give her. if its just a pulled muscle it will get better in a week or so but if she's still limping just as badly by then take her to a vet. she will heal on her own but make sure you keep her as low key as possible and while that baby asprin will help with the pain it might also make her forget that her foot is injured causing her to be more active on it. you must remember that pain is there for a reason to tell us creatures NOT to use whatever it is that hurts us for the purpose of not reinjuring and proper healing.

NO ALEEVE!!! NO MOTRIN!! NO TYLENOL!!! These can all cause serious, irreversible side effects!
If it is a muscle strain strict rest will be the best treatment. If after 48 hours of confinement she is still limping see your vet as it may be a more serious problem like a torn tendon.

you should have taken her to the vet as soon as she did it, they know what needs to be done and they can also prescribe pain releivers and something to take the swelling down to make her more comfortable. poor baby.
