I think many people believe that they can be their own savior until a doctor tells them that they have only a few months to live. It is in those moments that fear grips their hearts. Thankfully, God welcomes all who place their faith in Christ even in those last moments. God loves you so much that if you decide not to place your faith in Him he will honor your request to live without Him for eternity. That is not His choice but He will give you what you want, just make sure you have all the information before making your final reservation.

Consider this. I am an atheist.
My parents divorced and since my mother's boyfriend molested me when I was about three, my dad got custody. But he didn't want me, so he left me with my grandmother to raise me.
She died 20 days before Christmas (when I was nine) and my father and his soon to follow parade of rude girlfriends followed. He was abusive and neglectful, and got engaged- without telling me. I found out from the neighbor.
I ran away when I was 17 (after graduating high school) and have moved cross country from friend to friend in a vain attempt to make enough money to support myself.
I must have tried killing myself more than 20 times, all sorts of methods. Because I felt useless, worthless, unloved, unwanted, and cursed.
Since then, I disowned my family and only really have two friends. I've moved cross country 3 times in the last two years, and another 6 or so times in between that.
*shrugs*
Now, though, after YEARS of pain and struggling I'm finally starting to scrape out enough to make it on my own come this summer. At the age of 21.
So after 20 years of struggling and pain, if there is a God and He's just now starting to show me some love...it's too little, too late.

Nobody can prove any gods, much less a specific god, exist; many people will tell you their god exists but no others, but will never be able to prove it, even if they think so. Some will threaten you with eternal pain or promise eternal joy to get you to believe in their god; these are all stories, created for people who were scared long before we understood the universe. Now we have no more reason for these superstitions.

My problem isn't with faith, it is with religion. My family is Catholic but I am agnostic, I refuse to follow a religion that claims women are to worship men as men worship Jesus.
Most religions have the same central ideas of good and bad, the differences lie in the technicalities. I just try to be a good person and hope there is some sort of God.

We keep seeing this kind of question asking how people can be atheists so I’ll give you the exact answer. There is a critical period in childhood from about age 5 to age 13 when life long beliefs are imprinted. The brain actually rewires itself to make these beliefs a permanent part of the person’s thought processes. With most people the beliefs are provided by the parent’s religion and ethnic culture. If, for some reason, a person gets through this critical period without being imprinted they frequently grow into adulthood with a mind free to use logic and reason to cope with the world around them. Due to their imprinting it’s difficult for the religious to accept this but religion is illogical and absurd if viewed rationally. Have a nice day!

When I see a rainbow, I remember that is is light reflecting through water in the air.
When I see an eagle, I remember that they're endangered because of dumb things humans do.
I have never felt the presence of your, or any other, god.

Because, I see much different things when I see rainbows and eagles. Not everyone is going to experience the world in the same way you see it.

god is imaginary. Unfortunately, you are living a delusion. You have a lot of company, though.
