I'm originally from Los Angeles. Moved to Washington state to be with my boyfriend, but we're moving back to go to school in California. (ITT Tech). There's a campus in Sylmar and another in West Covina. Which one should I attend? I'm looking for a safe area as to not scare my boyfriend so much! They are both about the same distance to where I'd be working, so that's not really a factor. Which one is more entertaining? (More malls/theaters) Which one is the cheaper, rent-wise? Safer?

West Covina is nicer, safer, and cleaner, and closer to more areas with shopping etc. Sylmar, while safe for the most part is a little white trashy.

Parts of Sylmar are O.K. - there are some nice areas zoned for horses. Both areas have their gangs, but for safety's sake - West Covina is a better bet.

I grew up in Sylmar. It's used to be solidly middle-class, now it's mostly gang-land central and heavily Latino, signs only in Spanish, that sort of thing.

ITT is right next to the freeway, so it should be relatively safe. If you wished to attend there, live someplace close and commute.
Granada Hills, Mission Hills comes to mind. Even Burbank, as it's an easy commute.

Don't know much about West Cov, but I haven't heard anything bad.

If you prefer not to use a restaurant, then you may want to check with your local City Hall. they would know where you mite be able to have one, with little cost to you. If you are planing to serve food also ask about if your can bring your own, or if you need to cater it in. There is always some ones home with a large home that may be willing to have it their.
