What is it that's bothering you? Is it being away from home or are you worried you'll get hurt? Are you worried you can't just quit when you want? I think you know deep inside. You should ask yourself this, if I don't join is it possible that I will regret it many years from now.

The military is like a small country or a large Corporation. They have thousands of opportunities available that do not require your presence in the front lines. In other words, if you want to be an entertainer and they have openings available you can get a contract to do just that. If you want to go into computer programming or administration you can do just that. If you want to be a chef in your next life the Military can give you a good start. If you want to be a mechanic or a truck driver, the military can show you the way but that may put you in harms way. You can also be an Engineer, a plumber, and electrician and almost anything you can think of. Everyone goes through basic training no matter what field you choose. Then you go to an Advance Individual Training (AIT) to learn your specific job for approximately another 8 weeks. There may be more training involved related to your job. When all training is complete you report to your assigned base. Talk to a recruiter and BRING AN ADULT OR A PARENT to guide you. No matter how many years you enlist for as active duty your contract will spell out 8 years total. The remainder will be in-active reserve. Which means they may re-call you during that time. Ask your recruiter to spell out the specifics in writing (a contract). Good Luck!

ok first of all, let me tell you that a person that is scared to join the military might not be doing it for the right reasons. what i did before I joint the USMC was that I asked myself why I was going and once I answered that question I wasnt scared anymore. what Iam trying to say is that Its natural for you to feel this way, but once you realize the true reason why you wan to do it you will conquer that fear. Trust me on this. there is nothing to be scare about, You will be trained enough to overlook any obsticle and if you have God on your side you will be fine. I was in for 6 years I went to Iraq and other places where danger was Imminant and I lived through it fighting for the country I love. i would do it over again. talk to your family and recruiters also if you want to ask me more personal questions about my experience feel free to do so.

good luck and if you join me and other veterans from now and from the past and their families and USA as a whole will be very thankful andproud of your gallantry and courage to do something good for mankind... research the branch you want to go into and the job you are going to be doing that will also put you at ease and you wont be put in any dangerous situations. TRUST ME!!! i hope I answered your question. OOH-RAH!!

Not to be rude, but if you're scared, then don't join. It is a big decision and will change everything in your life. Go to college. I've been in the Marines since Oct 1999. If you want to serve your country and do what is best for any service, only sign up if you really want to be there. Otherwise everyone else will have to carry you through everything, physically, mentally, and emotionally.

1. You may be leaving home for the first time. That's pretty scary.
2. People in the army sometimes get shot at. That's real scary.
3. Many people come out of the army with good job skills. That's not scary.

Good luck.

The military isn't in the business of getting people killed, but that does happen, and it can happen. More people die from gang violence in city streets in this country than servicemembers in Iraq; the same is true for automobile accidents. You are more likely to die in a car accident on your way to work, than in a firefight in Baghdad, but that doesn't mean the lifestyle of a military person isn't riskier. One risk doesn't replace the other, it's just in addition to it. If you are truly nervous about military service, consider becoming a government civilian (there are civilians who play vital roles in military operations and they work right along side the troops).

I think you are scared because our government is sending troops fresh out of boot camp. There are alot of very young men and women who have died in the Iraq war. Your fear to join the Army is perfectly normal because there is a real possibility of being deployed and possibly killed...

Everyone has fear, especially when faced with going into combat. If someone truly is not scared, then you should be, because something is likely not right in their minds.

Courage is not the absence of fear, but the realization that some things are more important than fear. --Don't know who said it

Courage is the ability to stand your ground when everything in your body is telling you that you should run. -- On the wall when I arrived at boot camp at Parris Island, SC in 94.

Its only natural to be scared, but you have to grow up some day. I would recommend joining the reserves so you can still live at home and have a civilian life. Then if you like it that much you can go to active duty some day.

You apprehension is understandable in this day and age with all the things going on if it were me i would go into another branch other than the army and would pick a support m.o.s. such as (sewage treatment plant specialist) or (office assistant) or (armory / supply) something in non combat attached...
