Yes they do, but they also lengthen the pull on your firearm. This may alter the length to the point that your firearm no longer fits you correctly. On the other hand, I had to use a slip-on to add length to a borrowed 20 gauge Ruger Red Label so that I could use it for skeet shooting. A better solution (if the gun fits you already) would be to check and see if there is a pre-fit recoil pad from a maker like Limbsaver for your firearm.

I don’t like them or use them.
You are better off having one fitted to your weapon by a professional.
The professional will fit the recoil pad and gun back to you.
This some times requires the cutting down of the stock and still retaining the proper pitch.
Not a job for most drinking buddy’s.
It is worth the investment and when done right complements the weapon.

40 you just had to say RED LABEL.
I have but 2 weapons on my wish list, or drool list,
The RED LABEL in 20 gauge, and the NUMBER 1, Just got to decide caliber for the N1.
Red Label and Sporting Clay, WHAT A BLAST!

I would go with a permanent recoil pad which you can install yourself.
