I'm not sure about cats, but it is alright for dogs. My vet actually recommended it. I have given my dog pepto for diarrhea and it worked well. She told me to give him 1 Tablespoon for every 50 lbs. It is also OK to give your dog Tums if he is having tummy troubles. You can give them 2 tums for every 50 lbs.

Most human remedies are not suitable for dogs ,if there is a problem with digestion in general it is most probably an because of an unsuitable diet ,there are some excellent foods available for dogs a dry diet can sometimes be beneficial , speak to your vet ,sometimes a diet by (Hills }or a similar brand like Royal Canine
can provide all the nutrients with a minimum of fuss, occasional chicken necks (uncooked ) can help clean the teeth and help with calcium. definitely no pepto bismal.

You really shouldn't give a dog pepto bismal regardless of what a vet says, dogs usually eat grass outside to help their stomach, perhaps take your dog outside in the fresh air for a while.

Do not give Pepto to cats. If the cat is having "stomach problems" see the vet. They can find the reason for it and do something that is safe for the cat.

Pepto CAN be used in dogs, but the dosage is based on the size of the dog.

Yes it is alright. Once I had a beagle that was sick, and the vet told me to give her a Tablespoon, but it all depends on the weight of the dog. The only problem was, my dog didn't want anything to do with it, and it was very hard to follow her around the house trying to get her to take it! If you have a small baby syringe, and fill it with medicine or liquids like that it works really well for pets too!

I used to work for vet and I recently had to take my cat in for something. I asked if I could give him Pepto and he told me that it would not hurt him. He told me to give him about 1 cc a couple of times a day and another vet told me that I could give it to my dog when he was throwing up a lot. It will not hurt either animal.

I wouldn't risk it. Pepto can cause severe problems in cats. It can be given safely to dogs, but the dose is based on their weight. A phone call to your vet is definitely in order

If your dog swallowed something bad and that's why you think its stomach hurts, most vets will recommend giving it some hydrogen peroxide. The proper amount is half a tablespoon per 10 lbs of the dog's weight, mixed with an equal amount of water.
You will probably need to force it down, like with a turkey baster.

I had a friend and she had a dog that sometimes did get an upset stomach, and her vet told her to give it to her dog and also gave her a special syringe with in order to give him th amount that he recommended. As for cats I don't know. I would call your vet and ask as to how much to make sure that you don't give him too much or not enough.

yea - I was the vet for my own dog and she lived for 16 and a half years. I treated her with my own med. - she had arthritis, stomach problems, etc. but generally was very healthy otherwise. Give her doses according to her size - say half a pill or quarter pill if it's a toy dog. I learned this many years ago from a dr. friend who also treat his own dogs the same way.
