You tend to work more in industry rather than the chem lab. Just pick any industry that processes chemicals and you could be working on scaling up chemical equipment from lab to production scale, developing or fine tuning processes that make things happen, or monitoring a process or large scale operation. Chem engineering is more focused on equipment, process and quality control, but chemistry is more lab and analysis work on the small scale. I've worked in these areas for both very small and very large companies.

Chemical engineers translate basic science and chemical reactions into practical chemistry and design facilities to manufacture products on a large scale.

The products may range from consumer items to industrial products, to very sophisticated drugs. The key is to produce them safely and ecnomically so that society can benefit from the science.

Many chemical engineers (as I did), may move into business management, but rely heavily on the knowledge we gained as chemical engineers. Others may move into law and medicine as well.
