I am using Canon ixus 400, recently the LCD screen suddenly turned very dim (close to black). I managed to tune the brightness of LCD to maximum but it is still very dim. Had tried taking picture thru viewfinder and download to PC, picture was perfect just that the LCD is dimmed. Do you have any solutions before heading to the servicing center? Thanks

It sounds like the LCD screen is dying. If it is still under warranty and if you haven't dropped the camera (as this voids the warranty if canon can see any damage coursed by force or dropping) take it back to a canon shop and they will repair it under warranty. Otherwise it is cheaper to get a new camera or continue to use it with a broken screen.

If you continue to use it with a broken screen be sure to turn the resolution to maximum and turn off the digital zoom and change any other settings to default so that you will still get good photos. You will still have the optical zoom and you can see how far it has zoomed through the viewfinder, unlike the digital zoom where you can't.

It is probably cheaper to get a new camera than a new screen. I would stick to a canon though because they are still the best cameras that you can get.

You've probably already tried this but try putting in a new battery? My camera, once the battery gets to a certain point, the LCD screen will dim to conserve battery.

I'm sorry. There are no solutions. Eventually it will completely go black. I have the same problem with my FujiFilm FinePix. The LCD screen doesn't work at all now.

I haven't seen this happen, but I assume its possible for the backlight to go out. I'd suspect the LCD although it could be a board on the camera.
Has it been splashed with water? Kinda odd problem... not unheard of, but odd.
