Yawning is (believe it or not) a lack of oxygen, yet somehow is contagious. It can be considered very rude if you do not cover your mouth and if around people always say excuse me. If in a very formal situation and you feel it coming on...try to muffle it like cover your mouth and clear your throat...you don't want people to think you are bored. Just thinking about is has made me yawn. So...excuse me...hope this helps.

Well, when do we yawn most often? If I'm not mistaken, we yawn especially during times of boredom or drowsiness so that implies that you are bored/sleepy when you yawn. Now let's look at it from the viewpoint of rudeness or politeness:
It is okay to yawn if you are not directly communicating with someone. In a sense, you're just spending time to yourself. I don't see it impolite when I pass by someone during an early morning jog and watch him/her yawn as he/she opens the door and picks up the morning paper. However, it is rude to yawn when you are spoken to, whether intentional or not. You tend to show to the person speaking that you are bored of him/her so that makes your gesture rather offensive.
It is another thing to yawn with your mouth wide open and let out a loud sound. That is probably very unacceptable in a situation similar to the second one mentioned above. The loud sound further emphasizes exhaustion and/or boredom therefore making you sound as if you are saying: "This is getting so boring. I ought to sleep." Yawning with your mouth open could look just gross since you are exposing the contents of your oral cavity to the unsuspecting looker. That would just look plain disgusting.
Good day!

Not usually if you cover your mouth and apologize, but it can depend on where you are and what you are doing. Some instances where yawning is really not good!
* During a job interview
* When meeting your fiancee's parents
* During training at a new job
* When your boss is talking to you on your work performance - good or bad.
* Right after someone asks you for your opinion.

I would consider yawning rude if it is done in front of a person who is trying to tell you something important. If one has to yawn, then they have to cover their mouth and afterwards say "excuse me".

No yawning is not rude as long as you cover your mouth, while yawning. But is it considered contagious. Once someone yawns, then ususally someone else will yawn too.

No way! It's just something your body does from time to time. It's not because your bored it's just- well no one knows why we yawn but it is not boredom. If you must keep it to yourself, try covering your mouth a little.

If you must yawn, do so; Simply make sure your mouth is covered during the experience.

I think that in some situations it can be very rude. Like when you are listening to an important speech or something. You can give people the idea that it is boring. But in most situations, no, and besides, you can't help it!

Not as long as you cover your mouth and keep it a quiet yawn, rather than one of those loud, obnoxious ones.

Yawn covering your mouth, not drawing attention to yourself, or disrupting others.
