Take hot baths or lay on a heating pad for no more than 20 mins. Also, try stretching your back every so often. If it continues go see a doctor to see if you have scoliosis.

I like to get massages. Although a heating pad will treat your back pain for the moment, doctors should be telling you to ice it for 15 minutes on and off for about an hour. Try to keep the lifting to a minimum. Stretch as often as you can also. You should try to see a chiropractor as well because they have machines that perform as a cat scan but for your back and tell you the problem areas that you should work on. I found out I had a crooked back and had some discs out of line which caused pinched nerves... so you should really get checked as soon as possible before the problem increases and gets to irritate you more so. For the moment, just ice it. Good luck with it

I have deteriorating disk disease so I know back pain!! It sounds like you may have a bulging disk. I take a hot shower or something that works even better (it may sound crazy)but, I get on the floor and put my legs on the couch. Put your thighs all the way against it so that you are at a 90 degree angel. That will make you at a 90 degree from the knees down, too. My chiro taught me that. What it does is opens your spine up and straightens it and improves circulation. If anything it messed up in there it helps it to heal better. Sometimes it will hurt worse for just a minute but it will pass fast and you will feel much better.
Do not use dry heat. It will make it worse. If you use a heating pad put a garbage bag or something on top of it then place a hot wet towel between it and your back. Wet heat will lossen your muscles. Dry heat can make them cramp right back up.

Try asking your doctor for some exercies to relieve the pain, also check your mattress for sagging. Maybe a board under the mattress on top of the box spring will help. The key to alleviating chronic back pain is really good body mechanics, exercise and proper posture. If these things don't work I would ask my doc for some physical therapy where they design a program around your injury/pain.

I find that a couple yoga positions work best. Even my fiance, who was convinced it was a bunch of frou-frou crap, gave it a shot and found that it worked. You can try a sun salutation series or do a few up-down positions. (downward dog, cobra, child's pose, etc.)

You could try going to yoga to learn about posture, or see a chiropracter. I had similar problems but my chiropractor helped fix them.
