I have only taken it for less than 3 weeks and at one dose daily. There is no way I can taper off, and it's causing hives so I have to stop it now. Will I be ok? I never felt better while using since I used it for such a short time.

Sure you'll be fine....take some Benadryl for the hives in the mean time....the doctor may want to try another antidepressant that is chemically different from Wellbutrin to eliminate the allergic reaction possibilities....sometimes it takes a trial of several medications to find the one that works best for you

If you are on the lowest possible dosage I recommend listening to your doctor. If you are afraid that you are not tapering off slowly enough take Benadryl and use the Wellbutrin every other day for about a week and then quit using it. I would say though if your reaction is that severe the risk of having a more serious reaction from the medication is more dangerous than stopping the medication...

Good luck.

You should be fine especially since you had only used it for 3 weeks. Did he prescribe anything else in place of wellbutrin? I've been taking it for a long time now, so any time I want to reduce my dosage or stop taking it all together, I have to come down gradually. Not because its like a drug or anything, just because once you're used to a medicine like that...stopping completely can cause some odd feelings, etc.

you have only taken wellbutrin for 3 weeks, I did not notice any help until i was on this for 6 weeks. you might have a stressful day or two but i bet the doctor would not have you stop if he was not sure you would be ok

Don't worry, you will be fine. I had a similar experience while on Celexa. I was on it for a few weeks when I found out i was highly allergic to it. I just found another medication that is similar and i am not allergic to this one. It sucks but, you'll be fine.
