I suggest going to the Kennedy Center-- not sure if you have time to go see a show but going to the terrace of the KC is amazing.

I would skip the Washington Monument and head up to the Old Post Office Tower. You can see a better view of the city from up there. It's free and no line because people don't really know about it. It's really close to the Federal Triangle.

Something you can't miss is the Lincoln Memorial. Going up those stairs to see the staute of Lincoln is an awesome feeling. Make sure you look at the place where MLK gave his "I have a dream" speech. And when you get up to the top make sure you take a look at the view for the Reflection Pool, WWII memorial, Washington Monument, and Capitol.

For something out of the ordinary-- head over to U Street's awesome Jazz scene. You'll find some great Jazz cafe's. Or head over to Adams Morgan, just a couple streets over from U Street, and go into a bar. These places are usually hoppin' starting on Thursday til Sunday.

And last but not least-- get over to the Georgetown waterfront. It might be cold this weekend but there are some resturants and bars near the water. You can see Rosslyn, VA on the other side of the river and the Kennedy Center, oh yeah the Watergate Building.

Have fun! DC is an amazing city-- you should come back.

Monuments and memorials, contemporary neighbourhoods, correct regional flavour this is exactly what Washington, DC is; a place unlike any other; the same as this web site hotelbye . Washington it's your home away from home with free museums and America's front yard. Washington is recognized around the world as a image of the United States. Here, the spot you can't skip may be the Capitol. Capitol could be the seat of the House of Representatives and the Senate. The large dome, based on the dome of St. Peter's in Rome, sticks out especially different Washington buildings. Like Washington it self, the developing has developed over the years since the main part was created between 1793 and 1812. The past addition, in 1958-62, enlarged the key façade where presidents take the oath. On the other area, a marble terrace offers lovely views on the mall and the city. The inside is resplendent with frescoes, reliefs, and paintings, particularly the rotunda underneath the great cast-iron dome with a ceiling painting by Constantino Brumidi and big paintings of moments from American history on the walls.

Start at the National Portrait Gallery or the Spy Museum at the Verizon Center. We loved both, although the portrait gallery was our favorite.

Have a trendy, upscale, yet inexpensive dinner in Dupont at Thaiphoon and then head to the clubs in the most culturally electic part of DC, Adams Morgan.

Then try a mimosa at the Eastern Market in the morning... and explore the little vendors and shops. There are some fun things to see and buy. Adams Morgan and Eastern Market are electic spots to check out.

Old Town Alexandria is also great, wonderful little shops and interesting sites.

Go to the Spy Museum. Not your ordinary museum. If you've never seen a hockey game come see the caps this weekend. Tickets not too expensive.
