My mom gives a boatload of money to the church and she thinks I should do the same. I think she's brainwashed because I don't recall ever actually seeing that in the Bible.
Although, I haven't really read the Bible in a long time, hence me asking the question here a Yahoo Answers.

It is in the Bible, and now would be a WONDERFUL time to begin reading it again. :)

Look @
Leviticus 27:30-33 (Old Testament law); Malachi 3:8-10 (Promise from God about tithe); Matthew 23:23, Luke 11:42, 18:12 (Other Bible tithe verses)

10% is a tithe, and anything over that is an offering of love from her heart. "Tis better to give...."
If you have any more questions, you should talk to your local clergyman. They can help you find more info quite easily.
It is hard to hand that over sometimes, we have just actually started that in our house, as well. But, it will be well worth it and it is the right thing to do! The blessings will be worth more.

Actually, Jesus professes giving away all of your wealth to the poor, but a lot of people just kinda skim over that part or figure that a little is better then nothing.
