if your dog's nose is cold and wet it's perfectly healthy. dry but cold means dehydrated. hot and dry means sick.

It is a myth that a dog with a dry nose is unhealthy. There are actually some breeds of dogs that just don't have wet noses. As well, the reason a dogs nose is wet is so that it can smell because scent gets trapped better. I know that my dog doesn't always have a wet nose, and when she sleeps it goes perfectly dry.

Unless your dog has a dry nose and other symptoms, it is nothing to be concerned about.

My Maltese had the same thing when I got her. Her nose was dried out and a pinkish-brown color and really dry. Her previous owners were feeding her IAMS, which not as good a food as people may think! I did some research, switched her to a better food and her nose is now black and moist most of the time. This is a good thing, considering she is 8 years old. According to her vet records she has always been a healthy dog.

It's nothing to worry about...

Dog's wet their noses because it increases their smelling ability. If they aren't in need of a strong smelling sense the nose will go dry.
