well there are several reasons....
primary - the Vatican does have a standing guard force. its called the Swiss guard. although they have ceremonial guards dressed as colorful looking 16Th century personnel, there's plenty in the background normally dressed that could probably have you for lunch. and from what i understand, they are very very tough people. and yes, they are Swiss.
secondary - what ever the Vatican has that is secret, it wouldn't affect the running of any other country's governments much to where it would be worth getting an extreme lot of catholic supporter being very very upset with the act of seizing it by force.

because no military force will do it. Enough old time Catholics who would be upset, besides the Pope does have an army that protects the Vatican, so even if people didn't care it wouldn't be easy.

The Vatican has autonomy, even to the Italians. Italy has no jurisdiction here in that the Vatican is like a country of it's own. To invade the sacred grounds of the Vatican would be like invading the Kremlin.

i don't think it has ever been done. why not try asking? most know some of the bad acts. even the fascists and nazis werent that insane.

because those catholic people might try to prefform exercisms on our troops and start accusing bush of being possesed by the devil.
