I was prescribed bifocals about 6 months ago. Since I started wearing them, when I take out my contacts, my eyes ache and cannot focus. It's like my eyes have become dependent on the contacts. What are your experiences?

I had the same issue and my optometrist recommended me switching from contacts to glasses. He said NOT to use the glases unless I HAVE to. Lo and behold, I can now read the paper without my glasses. I can pretty much see everything perfectly up to an arm length away. I use to be much worse.

I am not going back to contacts.

It will take some getting used to (wearing contacts and glasses) if you are switching out the two of them at the same time. Your eyes have so much help...and then, once you take off the glasses/ take the contacts out, all of a suddedn, there is NO help and your eyes must try to focus on their own. It is a bit scary...my eyes do that too sometimes. However, I just went to the optometrist two days ago and would you believe it? From actually WEARING my contacts and my glasses, my vision has IMPROVED....my eyes have gotten STRONGER. Yup. I was astonished..all my life my vision has steadily gotten worse, but for some reason, my eyes are strengthening. The optometrist says if we wear our contacts/glasses correctly and take care of our eyes, they will take care of us.

No. Wearing your glasses at the computer will make your body/eyes more dependent on the glasses. I'm not sure EXACTLY how it works, but I'm short sighted too, and I am supposed to wear my glasses all the time except when reading or at the computer to prevent myself from needing a stronger prescription. That's what my doctor says, anyway!

wear whatever is comfortable, i find glasses the best, but if you think you look better in contacts then you must expect a difference. you will not get exactly the same lenses.
