I have adopted a dog that was in a crate for the first 6 months of life. I have had her for a month and she is an absolute pleasure except when I have to leave her. Since she is still chewing and not completely housebroken I chose to crate her when I leave. Upon return she is absolutely soaked with drool. It looks as if someone has sprayed a hose on her. I feel terrible because she must be having some severe anxiety when I leave her. What can I do????? She drinks 3 full bowls of water when I return (less than 4 hours) and is completely dehydrated. Any advice is welcome.

Normally when dogs become anxious they drool excessively. However, has the dog ever had seizures? When one has seizures they drool excessively. Does the dog drink when you are gone? Can you set up a video camera when you leave to see what is going on? If the answer to these questions are no, ask your vet. More than likely it is anxiety and there would not be much you can do. Try leaving the tv on for the dog when you are gone. I leave the tv on for my three and it seems to help them from getting into trouble when I am gone. I think they feel that there is somebody in the house with them. Hope something helps makes me feel bad for the dog. I don't crate. I know some people do and their pets like it, but I always thought would I want to be crated up, don't think so. Is there a small, safe room you could keep the dog in while you are out instead of crating? Maybe the dog just does not like the crate. Hope you find some help, good luck.

Leave a camera when you go to work. When you come back, watch it and find out why your dog is drooling. It might be for a different reason! Good luck!
