Catnip is a perennial herb. Nepeta cateria, a member of the mint family. It is not addictive and is completely safe for cats. Your cat will probably love an occasional catnip treat. The catnip affects all of the cats senses-touch, smell, sight, sound and taste. Usually, powerful, the intensity varies widely among cats.
The reaction to catnip normally lasts for a few minutes, and then the behavior quickly subsides. It can then take about 1-2 hours away from the catnip to reset. Then the same reaction can happen again. No one knows what happens in a cats brain but it usually doesn't affect kittens under 3 monthsof age and about 1/3 of adult cats are totally unaffected by catnip, they have discovered anautosomal dominent gene is inherited in those affected but not in those not affected. It is okay if your eats the fresh or processedcatnip. Your cat is just satisfying her taste for greens. Keep in mind that your cat's reaction to the catnip is due to scent, not ingestion.Catnip is in no way a necessity for the well being of your cat, but it is pleasant, safe and fun. It is recommended that you give it only about once a week to ensure that the effects do not diminish.

Green catnip is ok for a cat to eat. Just remember, not all cats like catnip. I have about 20 plants in my garden, and I give all of it away to my friends. You can also make catnip tea and it has a very soothing effect on humans.

It's fine. Mine eat it all the time, they just go a little crazy for a minute. It gets them high basically, and the high lasts about 7 minutes. Some cats it doesn't seem to really affect, but others go nuts like mine do. They'll be perfectly fine, you can actually buy tubs of catnip to just give to your cat to eat. That's what I do, they love it.

Yes, it is ok for your cat to eat catnip. From what I've read, cats will never over do it on the stuff.

It's fine. My cat actually just stole the bag off the table and ran away with it. By the time I found her she had shredded the bag and was eating the catnip off the floor. This is a normal occurance when my son forgets to put the bag away.

Yes, it is fine. My cat use to love catnip. He would go crazy over it and eat it, and run around and play, and then go to sleep! It is nothing more than an herb, and it shouldnt hurt them.

It's ok, the only but would be that most vets say not to use it until the cat is like 6months old or a year old or something like that.
I'm assuming your cat is not a kitten but if it is, you might just want to double check that.

Its not going to harm them in anyway, my cats eat it all the time. All is does is make them rather crazy and loopy for awhile and then they sleep it off. Somewhat like a high, without the after affects.
