I just reinstalled windows xp and none of the things that should work work anymore. I have some simple games on there and when I load them they all say, each in a different way, that the program or menu failed to initialize properly. I believe my drivers or hardware or something is not updated. I know for sure some software with my monitor isn't correct because, in the advanced properties of the monitor nothing says anything about ATI and I know that it used to say that. Is there some easy way to update and fix all this, or some program that will point out what needs to be fixed?

I am assuming that you have a manufactured computer, if so then go to the manufacturers web site and downlaod and install the drivers for your particular model as well as going to microsoft update from the microsoft website, this should fix most of the problems

I really don't know much about this EXCEPT there is a big difference in repair xp and reinstall. One you have to reinstall EVERYTHING you had on there before. I followed the directions for the non destructive repair. That leaves intact many programs. If you do a clean install you must have your drives etc. available for reinstall. Aso you must go to Microsoft for all the updates that were wiped out. Make sure you have virus protection on there.Good Luck

You will need to reinstall all the programs that you had before because when windows installs programs, there are a lot of system files that are installed to run the program and without them being in the proper place the program can't run. Also also some of the drivers will need to be installed as your ati video drivers. run windows update and get all the updates,as sometimes it will update your drivers.

I always go to, Start, All Programs, Windows Update, then see what is availabe for me there for my computer...
It is all updates that are free to keep your computer safe from hackers and bugs and viruses...
All safe downloads you can use...
It is more of a personal preference as to what you want, but you can read about them before you download them...
I have Windows XP running, so I always get any Windows XP info to protect my computer and keep it updated too...

On your desktop, right click on My computer and select Manage.

Open the "Device Manage" under system tools.

Inside the device manages, you can open any section by clicking on the "+" sign. Each device can be updated by right clicking on it and selecting "Update Driver."

Good luck. :)
