I have had pains in my lower abdomen and back, and when I go to the bathroom I have a really hard time going, not to mention I go constantly. I think I have a UTI or bladder infection. What medication do they give for this? An antibiotic such as ammoxicillan? Not trying to sound weird but if anyone out there has had a urinary tract infection what were your symptoms? Thanks everyone!

The bad thing is, I cannot take any of the usual drugs like cipro or bactrim etc because they are sulfa based drugs and i am very allergic to them

Go to your doctor.
Symptoms:
Not everyone with a UTI has symptoms, but most people get at least some symptoms. These may include a frequent urge to urinate and a painful, burning feeling in the area of the bladder or urethra during urination. It is not unusual to feel bad all over—tired, shaky, washed out—and to feel pain even when not urinating. Often women feel an uncomfortable pressure above the pubic bone, and some men experience a fullness in the rectum. It is common for a person with a urinary infection to complain that, despite the urge to urinate, only a small amount of urine is passed. The urine itself may look milky or cloudy, even reddish if blood is present. Normally, a UTI does not cause fever if it is in the bladder or urethra. A fever may mean that the infection has reached the kidneys. Other symptoms of a kidney infection include pain in the back or side below the ribs, nausea, or vomiting.
Products such as AZO and Uristat may lessen the pain associated with a UTI.
Urine-testing kits will help you determine if you have a UTI and should see your doctor.
They suck!!! The Uristat really helps to relieve the pain but you need an antibiotic to get it out of your system.
I hope you feel better soon!

If you want a natural remedy try drinkin cranberry juice it is very good for UTI's also i highly suggest seeing a doctor or a naturopath because a UTI is quite serious and if you leave it to long it can do some harm... cranberry juice produces hippuric acid in the urine which acidifies the urine and prevents bacteria from sticking to the walls of the bladder. You need to make sure that it is 100% cranberry juice

Amoxacillin or Bactrim are very weak for bladder infection. You need a stronger antibiotic.
