Don't forget, China is in general a very poor country, and it is a country ruled in a Communist regime. Even though the size of the country is massive, it does not have a large base of products that can be grown for consumption (i.e. fruits/vegetables). This in turn causes the country to have to import specific products that can cost an massive amount of money to ship. I.E., the costs get filtered down to tourists and businessmen/women who come to the country. China, while beautiful and majestic, is very poor, and the people need everything they can get. Problem is, they don't see much of the money, my personal belief is that it goes to the politicians and not the people. Hope this helps!

Because nearly everyone in Hong Kong is really really wealthy.
It has the most Rolls-Royce mobiles per square mile (that's an actual fact).

But also, because that's what Hong Kong specializes in: catering to the wealthy. It's known as a luxury city. If you have the money, Hong Kong is a very very nice place to be in.
