I think things happen quickly for two reasons....
you only have a certain amount of time
you feel the regular rules don't apply because you're on vacation.
You shouldn't let your common sense be in vacation.....ever.

No, I think things fast foward while you are on vacation, because you are less stressed and enjoying yourself to the point that time just slip by effortlessly, whereas when you are at your job, things seem to drag on and on, because of a deadline, mandate, or whatever.
