If a tattoo fades, can an artist go over it again and brighten up the colors, or do you just have to deal with it like that?

of course they can rework it, usually it will end up being a little bigger than before (outlining the original outline etc etc). And if the damage is irreparable a good artist can suggest something to cover it or bring it up to date.

Of course sweetheart! I have a fairly new one that I already have to have redone (It's my first and I didn't know I was allergic to the ink, so it looks about 10 or so years old, but it's only 3 months. I'll be doped up on an anti-allergent next time)

But I would suggest several things to keep your tat from fading again. These are also basics to proper skin care.
- Add a low sunscreen, like 15 or so, to your daily beauty regimen, and wear a higher one when you actually plan to have exposure
- Cover it up when you're not trying to show it off
- Be gentle when you wash, no abrasive materials like mesh or towels. For bar soap, I just wash with the bar itself. For liquid, I use my hands.
- If the artist doesn't use Bag Balm, buy some. It's really good!
- If you can't find or afford Bag Balm, buy a tube of Neosporin. A tattoo is a wound, I don't care what any one says, because it is a series of puncture wounds and cuts. Anti-itch Neosporin will help with the itch during healing, and since this is the second time you're doing it, it increases the chance of scarring. So the Neosporin all helps prevent that.

Touch ups are normal after a while. And if it can't be redone the exact same way a tattoo artist can change a minor detail to make it look good again. Ask any tattoo shop to see what they can do with it but it should be fine to fix up.

Normally just from sun exposure and life in general and even after healing some spots will either not hold the ink or after time it fades normally they suggest getting it retouched after about 2 years or so and if you still live by your tattooist he may even do it for free depending on the person that did it. If you want it to be as similar as when you got it done you should try to go to who did it to begin with if thats not possible talk to the person who is going to do it and explain that you dont want it changed ( if thats the case ) and you want it to be almost exact as possible. Even better if you know the type of ink used thefirst time. It really would be a shame if tattoos couldnt get retouched but thank goodness they can. =]

I just talked to my 22 year old son tonight and he said that's exactly what he has planned on doing, and he seems to know what he's talking about, in that area anyway, so . . ., I guess you can. God Bless you.
