Where comes from "on the double"?
Accordig to the dictionary,
it means quickly.
I do not make sure .

Walking in military language is single time. Running is double time.

In the military "double time" means to march twice as fast. That's where 'on the double' comes from.

When i say on the double I am meaning that you should do it twice as quick. It just means do something faster.
