The number of illegal immigrants who are being identified in county jails is increasing with every passing month, immigration and customs records show. In July, 204 potentially deportable men and women were held under immigration restrictions in county jails; in August, 281; in September, 374; in October, 416; and in November, 845. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials started the screenings with one eight-hour shift a day in January, and in late September increased to two full shifts a day. By mid-February officials expect to increase to three shifts covering 24 hours a day, seven days a week, Mack said.

And once the system is operating around the clock, she said, the agency expects it will be placing holds on as many as 1,200 men and women a month. That would be more than 14,000 immigration holds a year, roughly triple the 3,000 to 5,000 immigrants, legal and illegal, the county has released annually to Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials in recent years.

If they want a better life they need to fix their own country. They will hold march's and walk out's here but I hear of NO form of protest over the corruption of their own government. America was being oppressed by its British government so we overthrew them... It's easier to steal from others than to try and fix what is broken.

I want a better life so why can't I go rob a bank? They are both a felony. People who commit crimes should be prosecuted.

Do you know WHY there is a sudden rise in these arrests? I think its a back up plan. The people who have these jobs, ICE and the sorts... they are like the rest of us. We don't want these people as citizens. Maybe a small percentage but nowhere close to ALL of them.

The fact is the more we arrest and convict now the more we won't have if the government awards AMNESTY. The government won't award amnesty to the people with felony convictions AKA THE PEOPLE WE ARE CURRETLY ARRESTING. The more we arrest now the more we won't have to award the right to stay. I say go nab as many of them right now as we can!

It's intimidation. Nobody's going to round up all the undocumented workers in this country, but if they arrest a few of them they can scare the rest into submission. The companys that employ undocumented workers already pay them too little and often don't provide safe working environments. If these workers fear deportation, it's easier to keep them from demanding recognition as actual human beings. That's really the only reason they're considered illegal. Not because the government doesn't want them here, but because they don't want them to be anything more than a cheap source of labor.

All this racist villification of undocumented workers is perpetrated by and large by people who NEVER had to do anything to become citizens. Yet they act like they somehow deserve to be here more than people whose only crime was not being born in this country.

They are being arrested because they are breaking the law.

Everyone wants a better life but few will work for it. Everyone that comes to this country as an immigrant starts at the bottom, why should they be any different?

They are breaking the laws of a sovereign nation number one. Number two, if allowed to go on unchecked, they will bankrupt this sovereign nation.

I want a new Jeep Rubicon, think I can walk into the dealership and take one? No? Why not? I want one. As citizens of another nation, is it not up to their home nation to provide better condition for them? Why is it the responsibility of American taxpayers to see that these people have a better life? Especially since it will be at our expense.

Now...nuff said.

From your own link:

The study suggested that immigrants' place of birth had little to do with the type of crime being committed. About 28 percent of the crimes of all the crimes committed by those incarcerated in county jails were violent, regardless of whether they were born in San Diego County, elsewhere in the U.S. or in another country, the study showed.

I don't get your point.

They are being arrested because they committed a crime. You might as well ask why are so many speeding tickets given to people that drive fast?

Please watch this video. It is not about hate or racism. It is about finding the best solution for everybody.
