Tulsinga Del Valle on Tenth Avenue between 46th and 47th Street in Hell's Kitchen is authentic (lots of Mexicans work in this neighborhood; they eat here), delicious, clean and very inexpensive. The most expensive thing here is the seafood soup (lots of shrimp, mussels, clams, crab and fish - wonderful); it's $14. For $11, you get a large order of shrimp (I like garlic shrimp, but they have about five different kinds - the shrimp Vera Cruz is too spicy for me), a basket of hot fresh tortillas, and a choice of refried beans and rice or salad. Lots of tacos, tortillas, appetizers, all under $3. This is an absolutely no frills place and the service can be slow, but it's spotlessly clean. Great chicken mole and wonderful pipian. The owners are from Puebla (near Mexico City) and the food is authentic - it's the real deal.
