As an outsider looking in---I'm a Filipino who learned English as a second language---I do agree with you. I noticed that African-Americans speak too fast for me to understand and they do not enunciate words very well. Next on the difficulty level (if you ask me) are the Southerners. But I digress...
I think that foreigners like me are better off watching newscasts (BBC, CNN, etc.) in order to learn how to speak your language properly. I would consider myself truly proficient in English if I could understand fast talkers like African-Americans without trouble. But until that day comes, I think I will stick to reading subtitles in Hollywood movies and continuing my self-education.

Its not really the fact that you cant understand what we're saying most of the time..it's just the fact that you aren't open to much....
anyone can talk properly, black, white, orange, whatever..but sometimes people like to talk the way they feel comfortable..
the way you're stating it makes it sound like they're dumb, or stupid, when theyre just talking the way that they feel comfortable
or relaxed
I mean, come on, who wants to talk proper ALL the time?! Not Me!
Cirtian languages goes for cirtian people and situations. We may joke about going into the white house and act a fool but truth is we'll be portrayed as the most intellegent individual in the room.
Overall what im saying is dont put a damper on the language thing..because when it boils down to it, black people did create and does use a whole different language just so YOU CANT understand it, hands down, crak youngin, peace, LMAO : )

I do not know about blacks but I do know all the younger generation seem to want to talk quietly, fast and who can understand them. The first I noticed this was on the telephone when calling most businesses, the person answering the phone was almost always not understandable. It was necessary to ask in order to know if you had the right number. What's with the schools? Do they understand these kids?

A lot of variables, with only a few being accent, hearing, listening to what other people say. I found I can understand almost everyone, given some time, be they black or white, and I bet you couldn't have understood much of Sylvester Stallone when you were a child right?

Hey I think their accent is kind of cool. Don't get me wrong but allot of white Americans have accents too. I'm originally from Ottawa, Canada and the first time I watched the Jerry Springer show I could not understand what any of the guest were saying. White or black.

I have ADHD something terrible and don't listen to a darn thing anybody says if they ramble on for more than 5 words, no matter what their skin color. And I talk really fast and mumble a lot so nobody understands me either.
