I am a dental assistant and like the others said... wal-mart and the drug stores sell a temporary filling material that works great and has a calming affect on the tooth. This a similar material the a dentist will use under a large filling to keep it from getting sensitive. This is not a long term fix as you know. You should call your dentist and leave a message on there machine so that they can get you in first thing, Some times someone cancels there appointment and with any luck your message will be the next one in line saying that you need one. Also ..... Try the OTC filling first before going to the ER That place is just a germ pool. You will go there with a tooth ache and leave with a flu. you can take up to 800mg of Advil every 6 to 8 hours as needed as well.
Try drinking cold fluids through a straw so that the cold will not aggravate it. Oil of clove will help some. DO NOT put aspirin on your gum!!!! you will get and aspirin burn on your tissue.

Try putting toothpaste right on the break out. If you have a little extra money order Pro active (that stuff on tv.) it really works!! I've been using it for 4 years and nothing even compairs! By the way put the tp on at night when you go bed and wash it off in the morning. It dries the blemmish out. It doesn't work off blackheads though. Good luck!

I'm a nurse. Please go to the ER for some relief. I had the same problem and the dentist have to drill further in order to replace the filling. I'm so sorry but you really shouldn't put anything into the hole, it might make it worse. Take ibuprofen for the pain. Take care.

If you can stand the taste of an aspirin..put an aspirin right in the hole or on the gum where your tooth is hurting and let it desolve there....it will help with the pain..... ..but if the pain is really bad go to the ER......
