I wasn't able to see my shrink this week, and I can't figure out if something that I do is normal or not. I have to live a completely different life in my head while I'm going through my day. I would liken it to hearing voices in my head and daydreaming at the same time, yet it's definitely not one of the two. This has been going on since I was little (about 4 or 5), and is sort of like an ongoing story. I can't control if it happens, but I can control everyone and what goes on. In the world in my head, I know those people exist, but they don't know that I do. I don't exist in that world, I'm someone else.
It's never really been a problem for me, the only time it interferes with my life is when I'm trying to get to sleep and I can't because I have to "finish something up" in my mind. It never messes with my social life, it just has to go on at the same time, so I'm doing two things at once. To tell the truth, I sort of enjoy it and can't imagine my life without it.

Can't be a past life, I can control everything, and some of the stuff that happens is sort of crazy.

I believe that it could be.. Maybe you are creating and 'living' this second life so that you do not have to solely focus on the real life you are living.
However, it could also be that you are a very imaginative person and you are constantly being creative.
Try writing! Start being creative on paper. First make a list of all the people in your makeshift life. Describe who they are and what they do for a living.. etc. Then create a plot and an ending. Then write your story to meet that ending. When something comes to mind in your 'other' life, take notes so you can refer back to it.
As a writer, I have done the same thing that you are doing. However, the difference is that I knew what I was doing and why I was doing it. It was because I had the story in my head and ideas would come to mind and I would play them out.
Maybe this is not what you are doing. Don't let this become something that controls your life. Try to control when it happens and find a way to turn it into something creative.
You should also probably talk to your doctor about it and see what he or she suggests. I don't know your past or troubles that you are dealing with so I don't think you should go for to long without his direction.
Best wishes!

It sounds like to me you have MPD. But, this is a mental health issue, or everyone would be able to do what you are doing. You are able to controll all the people in your imagination because you couldn't controll what was going on in your life as a child when your father was drinking and was abusive, and when you were being molested as a child. This is how your brain takes controll. Of course, you enjoy being this way, because you can escape reality; be in controll of other people; and be what you want to be!
I was also molested as a child by two uncles! I am now 59, and at times I am still wanting to controll others. But I know now that when I'm wanting to, I am out of controll, or at least feel out of controll in some aspect of my life.
Hon, you need serious help! This forum isn't going to provide you with the ongoing help that you really need, and DESERVE!!!!!!!
If you can accept IT WASN'T YOUR FAULT! The molestation nor the abuse from your father. He was the sick one! and the babysitter that molested you was the sick one! YOU were the child, and the innocent one! You could NOT controll what they did or didn't do!!!!! YOU WERE A CHILD!!! I think the hardest part of any abuse is the shame we feel! The shame, the loss of self esteem! GET COUNSELING AND STAY IN COUNSELING! CAll the crisis hot-line! TAlK to a VOICE! Not a computer!
Hang in there, one of these days these imanginary people will be one, YOU!

My opinion is that a person needs to protect her/his children. If a husband (or wife) has a serious anger problem, the other needs to get the kids out of harm's way. I heard years ago that it is illegal to divorce a mentally ill person in some states. I don't know if that is true or not. The immediate issue is safety. A legal separation may be a good option. Try as some couples do, sometimes marriages just don't work. There is a Bible verse that says if a woman leaves her husband, she must either reconcile with him or remain single. (1 Corinthians 7:11)

Wait till you see your shrink next week or contact him now and see if you can have an earlier appointment if it is worrying you that much, it could be a number of things it could purely be an active imagination depending on what goes on in your imagination (whether good or bad) then that would determine whether it is a problem or not.
It could be a way that your distracting your self from day to day life because you find it too dull or stressing and not know it.
If you think of doing horrible things in this world such as thinking of killing people or such tell your shrink but if not and like you said you seem to enjoy it then it shouldn't be a problem.
Either way see what your shrink has to say enjoy your imagination its much more interesting than real life

If you could not control any aspect of it it would definitely be psychiatric - since you can control it, it may not be. A professional needs to be consulted.
I hallucinated for 35 years before I found out it was not how everyone saw the world - medicines can control the ongoing racket in your head.
OR you may just be very imaginitive and you should start writing - might as well make money off it.

Well maybe its just that you have an overactive mind. Or maybe its a form of escape that life is more bearable having this other world. Did something happen to you when you were younger that was a lot of stress and this has just become your way of coping?

Curious as previous answer is it this time or another. It could also be psychic ability in a way. I know I hear the voices of my family that has passed on or family of those who are close to me that has passed. What type of situations are dealing with in your head?
