Ok i asked "should my kitten wear a collar?" before,I am still not sure.no pet shop sells the break away collars they only have ones with a little elastic near the buckle.I live in AUSTRALIA so should my new kitten wear a collar or not? I have gone through the pain of losing cats (not to collars) and i dont want my new kitten to hang herself or choke to death.I don't have enough money for microchipping or tatooing. What do I do?..

I used to work for a vet and we sold break away collars there. If your kitten has to wear a collar they are the safest. You might see if you can order a collar from a cat magazine. I don't doubt you could find it on ebay. Are you going to get your kitten spayed or neutered? That's a good time to get it tatooed. We used to do that at the clinic all the time. The cat's already put under so it doesn't feel a thing. Our vet used to only charge about $5.00 to do this. Hope you find a break away collar. Good luck.

Because I believe we should always have our animals under control when outside, I recommend getting the cat use to a regular small collar and leash when they are young, and only use it when you can be out with the cat. If it is an indoor cat why would you want a collar although it is a good idea to get your cat use to collar and leash in case you have to transport it. If you've ever had to take a cat that has had no training to a vet you know its not easy.

Yes kitten should wear a collar in case nething happens..if she gets out etc...thats something they dont sell break away collars over there. I just bought a collar for my bf's cat yesterday and its a break away. Those are very important to have in case kitty snags a bush or fence..or even somewhere in the house. Especially if you got a crazed kitten running around. Perhaps you could check online or ebay for break away collars.

She should defiantly wear a collar with her name and your number on it (in case she ever gets lost). You can buy break away collars on eBay really cheap and have them shipped to you. But you really do need for her to wear a collar. The chances of her running away are a lot more likely then her choking herself. Also, I would buy at least 2 collars (one that you may not like very much but is very cheap) beacuse the first one that you put on her is going to get tore up from her scratching it while getting use to it. After she is use to it, you can switch to a collar that you like. Just a bit of advice.

The elastic beside the buckle should allow your kitten to get out of the collar if she really needs to. As to if your cat should wear a collar, indoor cat, maybe no. Outdoor cat Yes, you don't want to lose your kitty to the by-law services beacuase they believe the animal lacks ownership.

I would defiantly get a collar and the one with the buckle is usually the best one. I had to learn this the hard way because i had 2 cats and i had not a buckle collar and i always wondered how they got it off. Until one day i saw one of my cats simply just tug on it with his paws and it just slipped off. Hopefully i helped good luck!!

Either mail away for a break away collar from Canada, etc. or don't let your cat wear a collar

Always get a proper "cat collar" with an elastic band. This will prevent your cat from being strangled if it get stuck on a tree or some other obtrusion.
