It shifted into 4x4 and out at low speeds and seemed fine. It has those overhead buttions. I dont wanna kill it. Is it supposed to be shift on the fly able?

1987 rangers are not shift on the fly if you keep doing that you will break the teeth off of the out put shaft to the front diff even at low speeds you should stop put in four wheel then gently start moving forward until youre 4 wheel engages

No its not shift on the fly, and even shift on the fly systems aren't meant to be driving highway speeds due to the load placed on the drive train when shifting to and from 4WD. Its like driving a car with a standard transmission down the road at highway speeds and downshifting to 1st gear.

lol that is actual humorous! i replaced into taking a adolescence progression type in college years in the past, and between the issues it truly mentions is to "by no skill tell the youngster 'wait until eventually your father/mom receives living house." at the same time as the instructor requested us if it ever got here about in our houses, the lady next to me stated her mom were doing it for years, yet her dad hasn't come living house yet. we do not do this for the time of our living house regardless of the reality that.
