C'mon, everyone likes to talk about themselves... But what exactly do you like to say about yourself?
Imagine this:
So, there you are, on a date with a nice, attractive young woman. But the conversation is sort of lagging. What topic/question would get you talking and conversing?
My goal here is to talk about/ask something that will give the guy a chance to show off a little... and to get to know him better, of course. Any suggestions would help!

You ask about hobies are..yep I am serious. It will tell alot about a person. Then they can shine telling you about anything from motorcycles to bugs. It is an honest question that the answer will also tell you if you have enough in common to keep on seeing each other. Pets are also a great ice breaker. "Did you have any pets as a kid." is a good start. But the best thing is to sit and listen, if the conversation lags then just interject "You know you really have not told me much about you, I would love to know more." NO to cars, money, occupation (unless his job is a passion of theirs), and NO to past relationships. Your questions will also tell them alot about YOU.
