I feel that way sometimes too...everyone goes through that, especially if you've been hurt so many times and you just want to finally find someone who will treat you right! But I think you have to be OK with being on your own before you can find "the one" because desperate people do dumb things...like get with the wrong person! Loneliness sucks, but it is much better than being in a bad relationship where you are constantly being hurt or abused (believe me, I know).

Yes, I hear you. I'm single and live alone. I used to be pretty messy, too -- dirty clothes and mail in piles everywhere, dust coating everything, dirty dishes in a stack in the sink (and the oven, once the sink overflowed). A can of chili for dinner -- and the empty cans from the past four dinners still out on the counter, next to the empty beer cans.
It was depressing and it made me feel depressed to be there. Was this my life?
Finally, while I was between jobs, I took a week to do some major cleaning. I can't tell you how many boxes of crap ended up in dumpsters and recycling bins. At last, my place looked neat. The sight of a floor never was so beautiful. I felt leagues better, like I'd lost twenty pounds.
One thing that helped me stay motivated about keeping my place clean after that was to invite people over more often, just to play cards or watch a movie. Sometimes I'd even cook for everyone.
Another helpful aide is to get an ipod and listen to audiobooks or podcasts while you're doing chores around the house. Makes it less boring.

Sometimes I get lazy, but overall I love the independence of living alone...the privacy and freedom to come and go as I please w/o having to answer to anyone or feeling obligated to keep anyone posted...I don't always take out the trash as soon as I should, or scrub the bathroom every few days, but it's just me and I'm okay with it...
I eat what I like and find it easier to diet and watch my weight when I'm alone than when I'm dating or cooking for someone else...my place gets untidy sometimes but never filthy, and never untidy for too long...
To each their own...I've been on my own for a long time and although I've had roommates and shared a place with my Mom for a while, I definitely prefer flying solo...although it would be great to have a significant other in my life, I wouldn't want to live with someone right away and even a regular dating relationship would take some getting used to.

Shouldn't it be the other way around? Shouldn't you want to stay motivated since you are single?
But to answer your question...I find being a single person, I can stay motivated to take care of myself and do what I need to do to improve my life. Just hang in there...I've learned that being single isn't all that bad. You can't rush love or meeting someone to fall in love with. You never know whats going to happen or who you'll meet next week.
It will get better. You won't be alone forever.

Find a gym that you like. Set aside a specific time for your workout preferably in the morning. Go 7 days a week. Set up routines with a fitness expert so you are exercising what you want and varying the workout each day. Log your times and exercises. Vary the length of time too. Some days do 30 minutes and other days do 45. After a period of time your body will tell your mind to urgently go and work out and you will feel wonderful after most sessions.

You're noticing an almost withdrawl symptom. You see a family and you want to start your own. Don't feel desperate, feeling lonely is the time that people go to look for their significant other. It just means you've realized that something is missing. Don't wait on it to just happen, because it won't. Get out there and do something about it.

Yeah, I'm like that most of the time anymore.
I don't dust anymore because there's nobody else around to care about it.
I only vacuum when I look down and the floor disgusts me.
I hate cooking anymore because all my recipes are for 2 or more, and it was either figure out how to halve everything or keep getting fatter because I would eat too much.
Yeah, singleness sucks sometimes.

I just loooooooooooove the single life I mean it is great for me no let me refraise that I feel like its better for me to be single because in all of the relationships that I have been in I always wind up getting hurt and it was just sooooooooooo depressing for me but now I can breathe freely and be all about me now and not all about him or finding that one true love because I already know I will never find him and I don't care for looking anymore I have more time to do things I love to do now like hiking and playing football with my brother and his friends no more dates or hearing that word commitment ugh I just hate that word boys get on my nerves and my last boyfriend just plucked my last straw I try to keep my cool but these guys really don't understand what kind of girl I'am and I will not keep explaining myself over and over again so forever single and forever clubbin thats my motto.

Not for me. I've been alone for almost 3 years and I love it. In fact I've never been happier and am much more motivated because everything I do is for me and makes me totally happy. I wasted so many years trying to please other people and forgot about myself. Now I eat better, dress better, come and go as I please and do things that are so fun. You shouldn't need another person to complete you. You have to be a whole person by yourself. Try that mental approach and get back to me in a couple of months. I promise you, it works!!!

I know the feeling, I think some of us just never will be happy living alone....personally I don't think we were meant to. Of course that puts us into relationships that we'd be better off avoiding! Hang in there!
