Anything that will absorb, like clothing, blankets, etc... unless you can seal them.... Cardboard boxes are another no-no. Invest in some rubbermaid/plastic storage containers..

Store nothing porous, like paper or cloth until you have a dry basement. Dry with a dehumidifier and to prevent more moisture from entering paint the walls with a water proofing paint. This little effort and expense will save you a lot of heart ache.

Absolutely NO photographs or VHS tapes. Really, I wouldn't store anything down there yet until your problem is solved. Everything will end up smelling musty or being rusty. Be careful of mold!
Good Luck!

YOU SHOULDN'T STORE ANYTHING PAPER-FROM CARDBOARD BOXES TO PHOTOS. NOTHING THAT HAS LEATHER ON IT OR MADE OF IT. YOU CAN CLOTHING ONLY IF IT'S BAGGED WITH A ZIPLOC 'BIG' BAG AND THEN PLACED IN A RUBBERMAID TUB PLACE MOTHBALLS INSIDE TUB - NOT NECESSARY TO PUT IN BAG-ALSO TAKE A PLASTIC/METAL CONTAINER WITH NO LID AND PLACE CHARCOAL BRIQUETTES IN IT AND PLACE ON THE OUTSIDE OF TUB AND IT WILL TAKE AWAY 'MUSTY' OUT OF THE BASEMENT. ALSO YOU CAN PLACE CANNING JARS DOWN IN IT AND IF STAYS AT A CONSISTENT TEMP. YOU CAN PUT STUFF THAT HAS BEEN CANNED TOO.
